Dr Misia Temler (Marie Temler but known as Misia Temler) has been a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA Registration number: PSY0001115607) for 16 years and is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). She is also a Board Approved Supervisor.She works with adults struggling with depression, anxiety, and a range of other cognitive and behavioural difficulties.
Dr Misia Temler completed her Bachelor’s degree in Behavioural Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada in 1999. She subsequently moved to Sydney, Australia where she received her Masters in Psychology (Forensic) from the University of NSW in 2006 and her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from Macquarie University in 2015 at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders.
Dr Misia Temler takes an active and collaborative client-focused approach to help individuals break free from unhealthy mindsets and behaviours. She uses evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Schema Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care practices, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Dr Misia Temler has a wide range of experience in assessment, case formulation, therapy, intervention, research, lecturing, and writing. She has held a variety of roles across different settings, including private practice, forensic, community, and university. She has published in top international academic journals and delivered talks around the world at psychology conferences on the subjects of autobiographical memory, trauma and cognition. Her research has been featured in various media outlets including The Conversation, New Zealand Herald, ABC and Sky News.
Dr Misia Temler is guided by her in depth knowledge in how people think and how memory works to help clients develop cognitive flexibility and effectively integrate their past, present, and future. Dr Misia Temler has a high level of understanding of the mechanism behind automatic thinking patterns. She helps her clients unpack and restructure their unhelpful thoughts, emotions and behaviours in a way that is beneficial to them so that they can move forward in life.
Dr Misia Temler remains involved and up to date with current psychological research to ensure she provides the best care for her clients. She is a full member of the Society for Applied Research in Memory and Cognition and a research affiliate at the University of Sydney where she guest lectures, offers expert witness services, and provides student research supervision.
Dr Misia Temler also believes in multidisciplinary approaches and collaborates with interdisciplinary practitioners to cater to clients wishing to take a more holistic approach. She is on the APS Integrative Mental Health Group Committee.
